hello. lots of new things going on. i'm still moving up up up at my job at city market, my 3rd 'promotion' in 6 'months' to breakfast cook started this week. its early as hell but also cool and the people i work with are all awesome. still recording the 'solah' album with jay- its coming along nicely and there will even be a surprise guest or two on side b. my radio show is going strong wednesdays at 6pm- played some awesome don cherry & terry riley this week. this wed expect sun ra as well as maybe a special guest and a phone call from a semi-famous musician. maybe. havent seen a local show forever, man i've totally flaked on music so far this year. hopefully i'll update more frequently, we may be getting burlington telecom at the ol skin bunker soon; i still need to get an answer from tanner about whether he's going to give me that old computer or not. huh, tanner?

oak, a snake in the garden & the le duo are playing a show saturday march eighth at midnight at the radio bean. poster to come soon. not sure of the line up for the le duo yet but expect me on digi-drums. thats all for know.

just had my first meeting tonight with lee and jim of 105.9 the radiator womm-lp about having my very own radio show! i'm pretty excited, i've always wanted to be on the air and have never gotten around to signing up for a wruv show (plus i heard that was kinda a pain in the ass anyway)

i expect my show to be called 'flap shadowy sounds' and feature free improv, free jazz, experimental, noise etc.

so maybe as early as next week you'll be able to listen to the le duo spin some wax (er ipods) for the people! stay tuned...

labor (not) ready?

as many of you may know, i have been struggling for the last 8 weeks or so to find a job. the nest egg i received after leaving my last job didnt last as long as i hoped, thanks in part to the op and asiana house (and my own stupidity) well, today i decided to look into labor ready, the work today, get paid today temp place next to the o.n.e variety store on n. winooski ave. i went in and asked the lady how it works. its easy she says. two forms of i.d, pass the tescor integrity and behavioral test, and then show up at 5.30am when you're available to work. simple.

the test involved reading simple questions and then entering your answers on to a key pad that looked like a credit card machine. some sample questions:

in the last month have you done these illegal street drugs- meth, ice, crank, crack, coke, uppers, downers, poppers, mdma, etc?

you feel its appropriate to hit some one who has angered you.

a third of the questions were about drugs, a third fighting at work, and a third stealing from your employer. i answered the questions truthfully. no, i never fight at work. no i dont show up to work under the influence of drugs. the test took me about 8 minutes. after i was finished the lady said 'takes just a minute for the results.' i stood there wondering how awesomely i had done. man i aced this motherfucker i said to myself. then the lady turns to me and says, 'sorry, you are unqualified to work here. try back in one year.'

i stood there for about 5 seconds thinking this slack jawed bitch must be joking with me but no.

so, to wrap this story up, i passed an incredibly comprehensive background check to work for the fucking department of homeland security but i wasnt qualified enough to work at labor ready where crack heads & ex-cons clean shit out of toilets.

what happened, really?

so bush pardoned scooter libby. blah blah blah. is anyone really surprised? the part that really pisses me off is that MY nickname used to be scooter. it fell out of vogue probably 20 years ago and the last person to regularly call me that, my uncle vinnie, died last summer (rip)

july 4th is close- even if you dont want to celebrate 'u.s independence day' you should still go to a bbq because lots of shit happened this day including the death of bob ross or as jez & mark call him, god.

i've caught some slack lately from some of my long time readers about not having anything personal or non music related on the blog anymore. just where bands are playing & shit. i told them i was trying to make up for burlingtons lack of casey rae-hunter. but you want personal? ok, the transmission on my kia died yesterday, ruining what was shaping up to be a lovely ride to carmel, ny to look at bernese mountain dogs with tanner and jenny. we were saved by a 16 year old girl and a 6'10" behemoth named andrew. read about it here.

WHAT IS HUMMM?
HMMM is a spectacular audio event that takes place on Saturday, June 16 from 3:30 to 4 pm along St-Laurent Boulevard from Sherbrooke to Mont-Royal. It is intended to unite Montrealers through vocal expression and to beautify this already magical street.

We definitely do not intend to create a disturbance, but rather to heighten all citizens' awareness of their sonic environment.

Because of the soothing effect of HMMM, you will be able to hear your surroundings even better than before. It is an opportunity to avoid words for a short while, and to swim in a sea of vocal sound with your friends and neighbours, through humming.

HOW CAN YOU BE A PART OF IT?
On Saturday, June 16, from 3:30-4pm, CKUT (Radio McGill) 90.3 FM will be broadcasting the humming soundtrack. There are over 50 volunteers that will be carrying radios with the sound, and subtly asking citizens to hum along.

You can help spread the HMMM by tuning any available radios to the same station. And of course you will want to hum along! Any note is fine, any melody is okay - as long as you raise your voice!

WHERE DOES HMMM COME FROM?
The idea comes from the discipline of acoustic ecology, the study of our sonic environment. For more information about this important research, go to the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology.

KATHY KENNEDY is a Montreal-based sound artist who teaches sound art at Concordia University, and has also been a vocal instructor for over 20 years. She is the artistic director of the innovative women's choir Choeur Maha. Her large-scale choral pieces have been performed on the esplanade of Place des Arts in 1992 as part of le Festival International de la Voix, and for the inauguration of the Vancouver New Public Library in 1995.

HMMM has been performed in Vancouver, Toronto, Kingston, Kitchener and in Lima, Peru.

C,DOA? Metropolis set last night was great- their music fit nicely with the creepy, weird, sci-fi, Austrian, pro-Commie propaganda film (which coincidentally premiered 80 years to the day). I only stayed for 40 minutes or so, runny nose cold & I felt like crap- almost stayed home from work this morning but nah…

Tomorrow night I’m going to see Project/Object at Club Metronome- I still have an extra ticket if anyone is interested- maybe I’ll call Marnie to see if she wants it…

Last night while at Brooks buying cold medicine I bought a bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs, those sinfully delicious, candy coated chocolate bites of pure happiness. Who cares if Easter is still three months away? I could eat mini-eggs all year round, and I may this year- I’ll buy a few extra bags and store them in strategic places around my apartment…

Saturday night is the Madonna show at Radio Bean- Burlington's best playing songs by the Queen of Pop… cant wait-
