Alice Coltrane 1937-2007

I am He, O my Lord, that hath set his face towards Thee, and fixed his hope on the wonders of Thy grace and the revelations of Thy bounty. I pray Thee that thou wilt not suffer me to turn away disappointed from the door of Thy mercy, nor abandon me to such of Thy creatures as have repudiated Thy Cause.

I am, O my God, Thy servant and the son of Thy servant. I have recognized Thy truth in Thy days, and have directed my steps towards the shores of Thy oneness, confessing Thy singleness, acknowledging Thy unity, and hoping for Thy forgiveness and pardon. Powerful art Thou to do what Thou willest; no God is there beside Thee, the All-Glorious, the Ever-Forgiving.

- Bahá'u'lláh

I was very saddened to read this yesterday, i absolutley hope Mike and Michelle went and saw her in Ann Arbor in September...its nice to think that Her and John are together in whatever kind of crazy heaven they believe in.

yeah, man- its funny- she lived most of her proffessional life as the widow of John Coltrane, trying to keep his memory alive- and he died when she was only 29 years old! I just hope that she is also remembered for the music, I just listened to 'universal consciousness' and it still blows my mind. man...

we did go see her in september; it was her last tour. she's so beautiful- i wished she would have played more of her own music (she played a lot of john's 'cause it was a tour in honor of his 80th b-day), but it was amazing just to see her play anything. ravi and michelle (her kids) were there too.

thats why you have to see these oldtimers whenever you get the chance, you never know when they're gonna check out...not that alice was all that old- actually she was born one day before my grammy...

Thanks for this one, man.

Ptah the El Daoud is among my favorite records of all time.
