he has to die...

Trying to listen to all three versions of ‘that’s it for the other one’ from the deads complete fillmore west 1969 box set. The lyrics are so wonderfully hippy- they even mention Neil Cassady (cowboy neil behind the wheel of a bus to never never land)- the music ebbs & flows so naturally- at one point (lets call it the ‘peak’ of our little acid trip here) Jerry’s playing is so amazing it makes me just wanna say ‘wow, man…dig’

I also recently listened to Dusty Springfields ‘a brand new me’- great record to do dishes to- her voice is so strong and she pulls off the Motown/Stax girl group sound so well- my only complaint is the strings. Now I enjoy strings in pop songs as much as the next guy, but does every song need an epic arrangement of them? Hmmm… that 60’s production…

Tomorrow, as part of my dads xmas gift from me, I’m taking him to see Johnny Winter, that tattooed albino guitar slinging fool. I don’t know much about him, but according to wikipedia he did take part in a late 60’s drunken obscenity laced late night jam session with Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison- awesome. Opening for Johnny is Nobby Reed, Grand Isle/Franklin county's blues god.

far out man, far out.

strings are tricky - i dig em on that record though; but they were definitely over used in the 60s... woof.
