this saturday there are a couple of unusual acts i wanted to let you all know about.
at the barre auditorium in barre (obviously) christian rock singer and vermont native mark shelton celebrates the release of his cd 'tribal nation' with a rock opera-like performance that promises "Sword fights, interpretive dance, special effects and more... as the Lord will be praised in song, drama, worship, and more." and more info here.
at radio bean the cleverly named 'white raag', a sitar tabla duo featuring tim sharbaugh, the drummer from deep soda performs at 9. but in radio bean time that means who the hell knows?
at dobra tea the alash ensemble, central asian Tuvan throat singers & musicians, perform at 8:30. according to there website, "Alash is carrying the proud traditions of Tuvan music into the future. They are among the first of a new generation of Tuvan musicians who have matured in the musically fertile and adventurous post-communist period in Tuva. Having been students not only of well-known musicians such as Kongar-ool Ondar, they are also recipients of the musical knowledge of their own families and regions"

are you sure alash isnt playing the kids festival down by the lake at 3pm?
id hate to miss these guys. should be good.
maybe they are playing twice?
according to seven days: ALASH (Central Asian Tuvan throat singers & musicians), Dobra Tea, 8:30 p.m. NC.
i didnt see them listed on the burlington kids fest website- but it would make since that they'll play twice. we'll see...
Kids fest? I don't know too many 5 year olds who would be excited to hear "Tuvan throat singers". Unless they pull a Flaming Lips and come dressed as Yu-gi-oh characters.
That said, it sounds like a show I'd like to see. If I had to choose between the three however, I think I'd go to "White Raag"-- i've been on a bit of a sitar kick lately.
I got the info directly from Anrew at Dobra...
Didn't know about them playing for the kids.
thanks for clearing that up once and for all
Thanks for the light. I appreciate it. P.S. the Concert ROCKED !!!
